FAQS

  • What is Direct Primary Care?

Direct Primary Care is a model of healthcare that focuses on the physician-patient relationship. Instead of billing insurance, Dr. Bone charges a monthly membership fee (see fee schedule) for your family.  This fee covers all office visits, phone calls, and messaging regarding your child.

  • Why change to a membership model?

This model allows Dr. Bone to keep her patient panel much smaller than in a traditional practice.  This allows her to provide personalized care for each family member.  Communication is easy, and many questions that might require an office visit in a traditional practice can be answered with a simple text or call.  Office visits can be as long (or as short) as you need.  DPC care also makes budgeting for your child’s healthcare much easier.  You’ll never pay a co-pay or receive an unexpected bill from us.

  • What does membership cover?

    ▪️ Regular Checkups

▪️ Unlimited sick visits (acute and chronic care)

    ▪️ Remote visits/virtual care

▪️ Ability to run in-office Strep, COVID and Flu testing at a discounted price

    ▪️ Routine vaccinations

    ▪️ School/camp/sports physical forms

▪️ Management of minor lacerations (stitches, staples, glue)

    ▪️ Developmental and behavioral screenings

▪️ Parenting support and guidance (nutrition, development, sleep, behavior and more)

▪️ Evaluation and medical management of chronic pediatric conditions such as eczema, asthma, ADHD, depression, anxiety, and more

  • What services are not covered by the membership?

▪️ In-office rapid testing: Strep, Flu, Covid - you’ll pay a very discounted price for these tests in office

▪️ Lab tests: Labs will be sent out to local lab providers and they will bill your insurance.  If you don’t have health insurance, we’ll help you find the best cash pay price.

▪️ Imaging and Radiology:  These will be performed at local imaging facilities, and they will bill your insurance.

▪️Vaccines: Vaccines will be given in-office and billed to your insurance through the company that provides the vaccines.

    ▪️ Ear piercings

  • We don't get sick often. Is this the right model for us?

It probably is!  At Rooted, even your yearly wellness exam will be a totally new experience.  The longer appointment times and relaxed environment will feel totally different than a check-up in a traditional practice.  And even if your child doesn’t get sick often, when they do get sick, we’ll be a text or call away to help you decide if and when they need to be seen in the office.

  • Who will see our new baby in the hospital?

Dr. Bone will not be rounding at the local hospitals; however, as soon as your new little one arrives, call our office so we can schedule your in-home newborn check-up visit.

  • How do I pay for my membership?

Membership fees are automatically charged monthly to your checking account or credit card. We offer a 10% discount for annual payment. Since your membership fee is automatically charged, you never have to worry about an unpaid bill or wonder if any insurance claim has been processed or how much you still owe.  You may be able to use your health savings account (HSA), check with your individual plan for coverage.

  • Can grandparents or other loved ones pay for our child's pediatric care?

Yes! Another great aspect of DPC is flexibility in payment.

  • Should we cancel our health insurance if we use this model?

No, Dr. Bone recommends all patients have health insurance to provide coverage for catastrophic events, hospitalization, vaccinations, lab/imaging, and other expensive unexpected health needs. You may be able to work with your insurance provider to find a plan that works well with DPC (like a plan with HSA).

  • How do you handle vaccines?

Vaccines will be billed through your insurance by the company we use for vaccine ordering.  Dr. Bone supports routine childhood immunizations. DPC offers a great opportunity for families who have questions or concerns regarding vaccines, because we’ll have more time to answer questions for your family and work together to make these important decisions. Dr. Bone will work with each family on an individual basis using shared decision making for the best path for your family.

  • How does it work with overnight or weekend issues?

Dr. Bone will work with you for the best solution. With online scheduling, you can book an appointment at any time so you never have to worry about getting seen the next day. If you can't find a time that works just send us a text and we'll work you into the schedule! Additionally, you can always send a text or email for non-urgent concerns, and we will address your question as quickly as possible.

  • What if our child gets sick while we are on vacation?

You can call or text just like you would if you were home, and we’ll do our best to help answer questions, manage symptoms, or help you find the nearest urgent care for evaluation.

  • Is it easy to schedule appointments for sick visits and checkups?

Yes! You can book an appointment online. If you don’t find a time that works, text us.  Our small practice panel makes it easy to accommodate same-day, next-day, and urgent visits.

  • What if I have Medicaid or TEFRA?

You can absolutely join us at Rooted.  Keep in mind, since Dr. Bone will not be billing insurance, she cannot be a Medicaid PCP.  This means that you will need to keep a relationship with your Medicaid PCP office and see them for check ups so that referrals for things like developmental therapies can continue to be made through your assigned PCP.  Dr. Bone can communicate with your PCPs office if an issue arises in one of our visits that may need a referral.

  • What if my insurance requires a referral from a PCP in their network (HMO plan)?

This situation would be the same as with the medicaid question above.  Your insurance may require you to maintain a relationship with a PCP in their network for referrals.  Dr. Bone will communicate with your PCP if an issue arises in any of our visits that may need a referral.

  • Where will the office be located?

West Little Rock, off of Highway 10.  We will provide the full address soon.

  • Can I use my HSA to pay for membership?

Probably so-check with your individual plan to verify.  Many HSA plans do cover direct primary care services.
